I will preface this by saying i am not an experienced driver, i chose this forum page so that more new drivers will see. Ok so i work on a farm. Tools get expensiclve. Boss buys a semi. It develops a flat. I spend days with a 1000 lb-ft maximum airgun pounding the lugnuts to get them off. Last one i had 8 ft of pipe to break it loose. Welcome in my new favorite hunk of metal on this green earth. Torque multiplying lugnut wrench.

Ok so i realize this reads choppy, but i didnt want it too lengthy. The boss has a onehanded air gun that puts out the 1000lbs max force and yeah it took a long time to get them loose and is really annoying. 2 handed guns that put out upwards lf 2000lbs are a couple thousand bucks and most farmers or new drivers cant afford them. So i did some research on the multiplying wrenches and bought a cheap one on ebay for 55 bucks. It comes with 8 sockets and the wrench. It has a 1:64 gear ratio in it. The bosses old semi which has been sitting for years and hasnt had the lugs loose in a long time was just begging to test the tool. I got 2 lugs off with one hand using the wrench. Just stupid easy to use and saves a persons back and wallet. I will post again in the future as i take off tighter lugnuts but this tool seems like something new drivers could easily afford to buy and use for changing spares without a mechanic shop. Hope this hells and have a good day

    Now.

Go with that bolt from Mr Rusted Semi wheel to a good shop with many quality bolts for that wheel.

Buy a box of them. 20, 30, 50 or whatever. As much as you can lift and carry home. Why? You will start breaking bolts with that easy pull tool.

Getting bolts out is a form of lever. If you are trying to turn something with a 5 foot bar, it might come out. With a 10 footer... well you will get it out with one finger and maybe break it. But it will come out.

Sure beats the old 5 spoke wheel system where i can have a nice stroke trying to get that bolt loose or tight. It's a good way to erase any possibility of driving 400 miles today. =)

How small was the air line feeding the air gun?

I worked for a farm equipment dealer in my younger days. I have been in more than one farm shop that is nicely equipped with tools, air tools included. But for some reason, the farmer would buy a 3/4" drive impact wrench, capable of 1000ft lbs or whatever, and only have a little 3/8" hose to supply it. There's just not enough air to do the job.

Gotta have at least 1/2" air hose to supply enough volume to turn a big air gun. And a good air gun as well. Those ones you see at Lowe's, or Harbor Freight are usually garbage.

But a good torque multiplier is a nice thing to have. Can't go wrong with old technology!

Yes sir, that is the one wrinkle in changing on the road, tightening. For me i will use the gun to not over tighten. With just the wrench i am trying to learn how much force to put out when tightening. But still, really good poitn that i had not thought of.

3/8 air hose. Volume to the gun hadnt even crossed my mind. Thank you.

Or better yet work for one who IS road service. =)

Ive hauled home tons of stone by the shovel gratis from the plant for my land in rain season. Eventually I learned filling the same holes require concrete left over from nearby mixers who had it.

On a farm we really dont need road service or a 2000 dollar airgun. We dont do enough heavy duty lugs

Go to Harbor Freight and you can pick up a 1" impact rated for 2000 ft lbs for less than $200. While it may not hold up if you work at a tire shop using it 8 hrs per day 5 days per week, for a farm or O/O that only has to mess with tires once in a bue moon, it'll serve you well.

Before my shop size twin piston compressor with the 1" line.

I had a 20 gallon tank I would feed with 2 smaller compressors and use a 10' airline to supply my impact. This gave me the volume and pressure I needed to run the large impact.
But I had to wait often for the tank to fill to use.

Spray those lugnuts with penetrating oil.
