You can put a 48,000 coil smack in the middle of the truck. An excavator spreads out more then a coil. If you chain it correctly and get proper oversize permits, i see no problem.

Just re read, your worried about width. How much of the track will be on the bed? We haul sprayers all the time that point load the edges. Same with heavy tractors. The edges are designed to take point loads assuming the track will cover at least 6 inchs on each side.

Yes but coils are sitting on the main frame.
All but 6 inches of the track will be on the trailer. Not sure how wide the pads are.

Why do you have a step deck that you are worried about loading machinery on? Looks like its time to buy a real trailer. I have moved my PC200-6 on mine and a D6 with out thinking about it. Whats the point of having a trailer you cant load? Roll that pig on there, tuck the boom under, and GO.

Its a good trailer in good shape. But we bought it to haul JD tractors, 25,000 lbs. Not 40,000lb JD excavators.
And like they say the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

The floor of the trailer should be fine. It's the load height tat you will probably struggle with. You really have to tuck the boom to get the height down.

You will be fine. We haul concrete wall sections that only touch on the very edges where they stick out. We haul sprayers which are pretty heavy. Dont forget, JD tractors may be lighter, but they are point loading a lot more. The track will spread the weight the whole lent of the track.

Has a lot to do with the way it gets loaded also.
Make sure they load it from dirt pile or dock the same height.
The angle of loading in combination with the tracks being to wide to reach the frame is what broke mine. And mine is a 48' with the rear axle at the rear.

Ok, I'm going to get flamed for this, but here it is.
Let us guys with lowboys haul the units at our rates. Not flat and step rates.
This way you wanna be's will not tear things up.
Yes there are some units you can haul safely on steps and flats.
But loading a 50 k and up unit on a step and then cry because your trl. broke is just plain stupid.

I agree with Flightline. Watch your ramp or dock. Too much pitch and yes things get tore up. Even when loading a lowboy, we try and not have the unit pound the deck when loading. Learn how to lower your boom as a counter weight and you won't be pounding the deck.
The hard impact is rough on equipment..
