Ok so this morning my father (Owner-Op) was told by a driver that all trucks no matter the year make or model has to have a reburn exhaust system. My father hasnt heard of it and my husband says its only for new trucks. SO I am putting the question out. Does anyone know what the regulations for the reburn exhaust system really say?

    THanks for all the help

It would be an EPA regulation. It's not really an exaust reburn system. It's been required since 2007 that diesel engines use ultra low sulphur diesel. Sulphur in diesel was reduced from 500 ppm to 15 ppm or less to make what is sold now as ULSD. A particulate filter is part of the system. When the filter gets to a particular level of particulates, exaust back pressure increases, a sensor detects it and tells the engine computer to send more fuel to the engine. This causes the filter to heat up and burn the particles in the filter and the process keeps repeating.

Now for your question. By December of this year all road diesel is required to be the ultra low sulphur diesel. The ULSD is compatable with the pre 2007 engines and you need to do absolutely nothing (Other than normal maintainance) to continue operating them. So no, older engines do not need to be modified.

    Best regards.
