Hello all, great forum you have here.

Let me start off by saying that I am not a truck driver, but I thought some of you may be knowledgeable about my issue. I work in the environmental industry, specifically water sampling. We handle samples that are considered "hazardous materials" and since we must drive them to the lab to be processed, I fall under the DOT drug testing spectrum.

I took the DOT-5 drug test in April 2013 and failed for a positive marijuana result. I am now looking for a job in the same industry with similar responsibilities. I know that drug test results stay on record for 2 years. I'm guessing that any prospective employer will see this negative result, but can I still transport samples legally? Is it simply a matter of retesting and passing? I would pass the test if taken today.

having that on your record wont help you at all, I would never have been using it in the first place working in an industry where test are performed.

I understand it won't help. Do you have any insight on how it will affect me going forward? Does it disappear after two years or will it always affect me? Can I do some sort of program to expedite the process?

I no longer use marijuana and don't plan on it.

You need to look up the "SAP" program. Something I learned recently is you MUST go through that program in order to be able to have ANY job regulated by the DOT, period. I'm about to go through it myself but my refused drug test was 5 years ago and I've just learned this very specific detail.

    good luck

I believe you can take a drug program but, don't just take any program, find out which one you SHOULD take first. I don't know that answer but, I know it will look better for you, if you take a drug program. Good luck and don't give up.

Thanks OzzyOKC. Let me make sure I'm understanding you correctly. Even if I took a DOT test for my next employer and passed, I would still have to do the SAP program? Basically to "correct" my previous failed test?

Failed drug test.... It will forever haunt you. Best you can do is leave that #### alone, go through a SAP program and continue to leave it alone other wise question yourself if its worth ruining the rest of your life over because its hard to even get a ditch digging job these days without testing and back ground checks and it only gets harder.
