There's an ongoing thread in the Politics Forum for those that wish to argue the politics, or the pros and cons of unions:

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ngratulations-fed-ex-drivers-east-philly.html

We'd really like to leave this thread open so that the LTL guys can have a place to discuss this particular issue - the vote, in this case. However, that's not going to happen if we can't have a discussion free of the bickering and politics that usually take over threads on the subject of unions. Try to have the discussion without all of that, and we can leave it open. If you want to fight over it, take it to Politics, please.

this is a service center with less than 50 employees who voted. I just wonder if other service center will keep signing up with teamsters like a domino effect.

I laugh at all the people that say Union drivers are overpaid, at least in trucking anyway. How narrow minded can you be, geez. I believe 99% of non Union drivers are UNDERPAID!!! Especially OTR!

Non Union drivers are suckers, myself included. My company takes full advantage of my time and experience and exploits both at every opportunity.
As someone pointed out, pizza delivery and flower delivery in 4 wheelers easily pays better than trucking.
    In most cases.

I delivered pizza's when I was in college. Even with tips, it didn't pay as well as trucking.

Just yesterday(on this very forum) someone posted a pizza delivery add paying $17/hr.
Maybe you were being taken advantage of.

I was paid minimum (or a little more) plus tips and delivery charge. I am sure the $17 includes tips and a delivery charge and is not a guarantee.

A couple of things I'm going to comment on here.

    1. Fedex drivers approached the teamsters about joining there union not the other way around. That is why Fedex was caught off guard by this.

    2. This really isn't about pay but about treatment. Fedex is one of those companies if a driver shortage wasn't going on they would fire you the first time you miss a gate time by literally just 1 second. The reason why fedex drivers are unionizing is due to treatment. The fedex driver comments after voting to join the union at two terminals are about needing to be treated better and not constantly threatened that they will lose there job.

    3. My father works for fedex and I tried working at fedex but to be blunt they are way way to anal. They were far more anal about stupid **** then the army was when I was enlisted. Frankly I quit the job because the extra 10 to 15k a year was just not worth hating life whenever you are at work. My father would quit Fedex if he didn't have so many years in watkins motor lines before fedex bought them out. My father is just waiting to retire at this point if he was in his 20s, 30s, or 40s he would've quit fedex. The voting for union is really about how drivers are treated and not about pay or benefits.
