That would be more intrusion; there's already laws and rules for the motoring public, but law enforcement would rather fool with trucks.

The rates go up for me every winter. Even more so on a bad winter. Why because winter is when livestock has to be fed more to survive. Their is no grazing. So nothing to do with ELD'S.

I know nothing of dry van but I'm pretty sure dry van always has a big boost around Christmas. Consider the fact the economy is better than it has been. I'm betting more was spent than previous years. Everyone wants to see there children have a good Christmas. So was it ELD'S or normal market spikes?

Maybe you need to learn how laws can change and one day something it legal and safe. The next day it's not.

The speed limit in Ohio was 55 for safety or writing tickets. Now you can drive 70 and your safe and legal and they can't write as many speeding ticket.

Laws change, I think your looking for some magic answer that is 100% correct.

"In my view, most all regulations are some form of an encroachment. If yesterday I was a law abiding citizen, doing no harm to my neighbor by my actions, and with the stroke of a pen, today I have been deemed a criminal by my lack of action, or compliance, there has been an encroachment upon my liberty."
Great great line. Exactly how America was today not so much.
Thank you for bringing this into the forefront

No, the national 55 speed limit was for fuel savings. Nevada used to write us a "Waste of Natural Resources" ticket in the 80's for speeding. Up to 70 mph was $10 or $20 dollars if memory serves, and could be paid on the spot.

The fuel shortage panic in the 70s led to that. By the year 2000 we were going to have completely exhausted all fossil fuel reserves, and be in an ice age.
