Spent the day going through a bunch of dad and grandpa’s old truck stuff. Just under $28k for a brand new White Freightliner cabover. I think it wasn’t quite triple the cost when dad got a new Freightliner cabover in 1980.

I like going through my boxes of old truck stuff. Grandma and grandpa kept a bunch of old PUC notices and copies of the letters they sent contesting when someone wanted to get authority. It’s neat to see all the history like that.

    I"m surprised it's still legible.

    I practically can't read anything I've got f rom the 90's.

Too bad we can't get trucks that cheap these days.

The heck of it is when you bought a new truck like that you turn the key and run and run and run and run dependably day in and day out year after year with no problems except maintenance... Unlike the overpriced plastic junk of today.

Actually the money has inflated. I remember very well what 10 dollars or a 100 could buy in the early 70's or the invoice price on my two ford V8's one was 3200 and the other 4100 with factory air. I might still have those back on the east coast in papers.

Uncle used to take us through a number of sale lots of trucks and occasionally talk price as well. I was too young to comprehend then what particulars.

4 Bedroom houses were around 24000 such as the one we lived in and so on. And the wages also were much smaller as well. I think the most expensive outrageous thing you could buy was a Mark 4 car, those were more expensive than the English Rolls at that time.
