I lived in Carolina when I was leased to CF Arrowhead and I worked out of the Detroit office best I can remember they had an office out of a 76 truck stop south of Detroit ran a lot of automotive. There was a company can’t remember the name in Spartanburg SC that made the carpets for Ford I did a lot but did run all over.

    I like this thread.

    Post more old stuff.

    :)

Some places would love that paperwork for collector purposes...like museums an the like. Especially nicely preserved. You likely won;t want to part with it, but if nobody to pass on to, it's a neat option. Good way to have your history live on forever.

Anyhow...again..cool thread. I like these old, history filled threads.

    Sirscrapntruckalot - History...is pretty cool.

My quote and reply did not come out properly when I quoted DougA....Beautiful truck DougA. International also had some of the nicest paint schemes back in the day also.

I would take that over any new truck today.

Thanks, was fun truckshopping back then, always an IH Cummins guy. Before I bought that one, went up to Loch Haven Pa, at Hannah International and looked at a new black and red 4300 with a KTA525 in it. Also looked at another one in Selinsgrove,Pa.,that had a KT450 in it. Just didn't want or need that big of a heavy engine. My dealer in Baltimore told me about the one I bought, was up at Reading International,Reading,Pa.,gave me a general description of what it was. NTC350 with a 13 speed. My wife and I drove up Sunday to take a look, fell in love with the Eagle paint scheme right away. Called my dealer Monday, hammered out a deal.
Two tones of tan, brown, orange, and white pinstriping, all factory paint job,no decals or stickers. Was nice back then when the truck manufacturers took time to paint trucks multi color like that, instead of all the one color stuff nowadays.
Had that truck for a while, and the length laws started to relax, stretched it out to 235" wb from 200",put New-way 4 bag air-ride,and a set of SQHD 4.11's under it. Wish I would have kept that one.
Don't have a lot of pics of it,but here's one in my driveway, stopped by on the way thru from out west. Tarped piece on the back is a stator out of GE in Tucson, going to GE Albany,NY,and crates of railroad parts, going to Eastern Canada. Funny,I can remember useless crap from 30-40 years ago,but can't remember what I had for dinner last nite,lol......enough rambling.

004_1.jpg 003_1.jpg 005.jpg Nice, thanks for the pics DougA. I'm an international guy too. Ran a couple S-Lines, a 9300, 9400, a couple 9900i's and Paystar's. I always wanted a Transtar cabover or 4300 conventional but never got the opportunity.
I don't think you went wrong with an NTC over the KT. KT is cool for sure, but expensive and heavy. You can get big power from an NTC too. I had an NTC400 Big Cam with big injectors, #8 button and 235 pounds of rail pressure and it flew.

Another cool thing about International besides having the nicest paint jobs back then....the first sink and running water in a factory sleeper that I ever saw.

Yeah,I couldn't stay away from them. This was my 1995 9300 Eagle,Cummins N-14,500,15 spd. Owned it for 20 years before I retired and sold it.Best truck of all the ones I owned, just a dam good running,no problem truck. Roomy sleeper, but I like the 4300 big sleeper better, mainly because of the door, and windows. Just liked to sleep with a fresh air breeze going through when I could.

I remember those. I still have all the brochures and the magazine International used to send out that had the announcement of those when they first came out.....Viper red with those cool looking hole style in the rims. Mine was older than that one. I can't remember the year now, but it had a 3406B 425 Cat, 15 over, and a Mik-Mak 60 inch high rise bunk. Had Hendickson RT and spokes on the rear. Pulled float and dump trailer with it.

Around 2008 I started running Ont to Gary Ind more. We were always on a permit so it would be on 20 usualy running out to South Bend before getting back on to 94 It was dumpy and all that but you would see all these old truck stops and old style truck shops and bars and motels from back in the 70's and 80's .I was always curious to see what that corrider would have been like in its heyday. I'd imagine it was a zoo lol I ran detroit for quite a few years before so I'd been around a bit but that area was another step up lol. Like you said lots of big industrial plants through there that will never be replaced. Kind of scary when you think all the money that was made there over the years by these big companies. All gone now.

Extremely familiar with US20 in Gary,Crossroads area. It was a Zoo. When I first started in the early 70's with my CO4070A cabover, and my 40' flat out of Baltimore,my steady runs were the Illinois,Iowa area. My return haul was for the Lancer-Jones Motor Freight agent out of Gary,on Rt. 20. Found him early on,just a quick phone call when empty, and he loaded me every trip, back to either Cat in York,Pa.,Philadelphia,or Baltimore, load 24 hrs.,decent rates. There was just so much iron to haul back then it was staggering. Load the wagon, hit the toll roads. Indiana toll road from Gary to the Ohio line was $7.80 seemed like it was that rate forever,Ohio Tpk. to the Pa pike was around $11.00,depending on your weight, and the Pa. pike from the Ohio line to Breezewood was around $17.
US20,Gary was just going balls to the wall,24 hours a day,365 days a year. Every business along there catered to truckers. Steak houses, bars, fuel stops, strip clubs, trucks everywhere, and 95% were flats, covered wagons. It was a great time to be trucking.
