It's been a few years since I pulled flatbed, but recall the rule regarding rubrails is that the rubrail was not to be touched if possible for load securement. We were told this was how we were to determine how to hook our straps.

    A. straps inside RR, then hooked to the trailer.
    B. if unable, straps outside RR, then hooked to trailer
    C. if the above two are not possible, hook to rubrail.

But that the rubrail was not to be touched if possible for load securement.

Do we really need to have the rub rail/strap argument for the 10,000th time????

Hook your straps however you want. No chains to the rub rail.

I honestly didn't even think of doing that. I just figured none of the guys would be interested in undoing all of their stuff and redoing it. But I will definitely go to my nearest Truck stops over the weekend and pick some of their brains.

I'll definitely be doing this. Thanks

Haha, I don't mind offering a few bucks and a meal.

If you were closer you could come to my terminal and get all the securement, tarping, loading, positioning training you want as I load many trucks a day with everything from flat plate titanium to oversize pieces.

It usually takes someone telling me 10,001 times and showing me 10,002 for it to finally sink in my thick skull.

only on the rear....side you can cover up to 10% or something like that. Rear 100% must show. That being said, I've had a level 2 inspection when i had a load of lumber 4 feet off the rear. The tarp was pulled under it and secured to rear stake pockets with bungies over rear tape. (wanted to insure tarp wouldn't flap over lights) DOT didn't care at all and gave a clean inspection. So although technically 100% of rear tape must show, its not enforced. Also holding the tarp out of the way of lights is way more important in my book.
