That's what we always used, used motor oil brushed on heavy and let it sit for a weekend before we use them.

Haul a load of these fresh treated railroad ties like I've been hauling and get a free creosote treatment.
First load on a new trailer couple of weeks ago. What a mess. All over the floor. Even ran down the back. About an hour with a rag and some gasoline got it off the back. Still all over the floor.
