We had some old Ford F700s when I was at Pepsi with 5 speed/2 speed axle combos that were so worn out that you could float, single clutch like a car or double clutch and it would shift no problem.

Thats not because there worn out, its because they have full syncro trannies. Not the same as a 9,10,13,15,21 or a 5x4. There basicly a glorified pickup.

If they were fully synchronized they wouldn't float but they did. So yes they were worn out.

You can float a synchronized transmission just like a non-synchro.
