I want to know if companies require to you know how to float gears. I’ve never floated. I just got my CDL and my CDL school only taught to double clutch.

Depends on the company. Floating is easy much easier than wearing out you knee with the clutch.
Samuelh, diesel drinker, Dan.S and 2 others Thank this. -
Never heard of anyone requiring a driver to float. But most of us do.
Hermit Trucker, Paddlewagon, tscottme and 5 others Thank this. -
Nobody will have any problems with you double clutching.
When the time comes that your knee aches. You’ll figure out you can do the same shift without touching the clutch.MartinFromBC, Cam Roberts, Hermit Trucker and 6 others Thank this. -
Should have beat up your trainers truck..not your own...
McUzi and highway666 Thank this. -
Ive only ever seen a company say you have to clutch .
Ive never seen one that said you cant .Steel Dragon Thanks this. -
Ask any engineer, double clutching is what is supposed to be done while lots of experienced drivers will brag about being about to change with out the clutch it is not what the gear box was designed to do hence the reason the bigger companies are converting to auto - shifts in the long run it proves much cheaper, stick to double clutching unless your employer tells you otherwise.Last edited: Feb 16, 2018
