So the ABS light on my new Fontaine step deck is on.What I have done so far is unplug the power to it on both the truck trailer and sprayed out the plugs on both ends with electronic cleaner and also the inlets on both ends. What else can I check?

Didn’t you rewire something? I forgot

There is an ABS fuse for the trailer if you haven’t checked

Truck. Probably in the engine compartment. Look online for your specific truck for exact location if the schematic is faded or gone

You talking about light on outside of trailer? If so. Turn ignition on off on off on. Count the blinks. Look up the code. Probably just a wheel sensor needing pushed back in to the tone ring, or a broken wire on one of the sensors, or broken wire from sensor to ecu, depending on what type of sensors you have. Hopefully they’re the ones with a short wire, and an extension wire going to the ecu. If the sensors have just one long wire going to ecu, and wires bad, you’ll have to replace whole sensor. Other short/ extension type, maybe not, could be a broken extension wire. Easy fix. Need to know what brand the system is, and if it’s a 2 sensor or 4 sensor system. Also which way the ecu is mounted on the Trailer. Check which way the plug/wires from wheel sensors are facing- front or rear of trailer. Blink code will tell you which wheel has a problem. Depending on which way the ecu is facing, same blink code can mean either side. Once you figure out which wheel is the problem. Start by trying to push sensor in. If they’re good and up against the tone ring, next try swapping the extension wire from other side, or buy a new one, try it out. Can always be kept for a spare. If the extension wire doesn’t work, I’d suspect the sensor or wire on sensors itself. There’s a way you can check them for resistance. Should have some, if not, a broken wire to sensor or bad sensor/wire. The sensors don’t really go bad. They’re just a magnet. Dirt or oil can affect them, but rarely. It’s the little wires between sensors and ecu that break inside. Can’t tell by looking, if they’re broken inside. Often a visual inspection of wires shows a clearly broken wire. Should be an easy fix. Usually something that simple, as a open circuit/ broken sensor wire.

After each repair, you’ll need to pull Trailer around the yard. At least 3-5 mph to make light go off. If lights stays on, park it and check blink code again. Same code problems not fixed. Different code, one problems fixed, another problem still exists. Repeat diagnosis and repairs. Till light goes off over 5 mph, and stays off.
