This is NOT from Knight mgmt or recruiting, but from the drivers at Knight Transportation, particularly from the SW drivers!! Knight mgmt has this wonderful policy of gov'd speed of 66 mph if have a certain idle time!! Otherwise, drops to 64 mph. I drive a different tractor every week since am an 'Express' driver---i.e. 6-7 days out/5-6 days back. Every tractor that I've had since May and looks like til Oct has run at 64 mph!! I even ran Portland/Wash St. for a week with min idle and it never went up to 66 mph!!

BEWARE new hirers!! Your truck if out of the Phx/Vegas/L.A./TX areas will be 64 mph and your will be stuck with it till cooler weather. And, if you run 'north,' and dont have a Webasto Heater buit in (many tractors dont!), you will be running 64 mph quite a lot!

And, for more fun, Idle Shutdown Override will only work from the outside temps of 40-70F----many tractors I have driven fall outside that range as far as 30-95F!!! Opening windows, letting in flies & mosquitoes still wont keep you comfortable!! Again, BEWARE new hires---you most likely will be told that tractors are govd to 66 mph, but you wont get one!! Knight mgmt is mostly interested in saving $$$ and NOT the driver's comfort!!:biggrin_25513:

In 11 hrs of driving that 2 MPH will only make 22 miles difference. Not enough to spend 2 seconds of worry over.

Many fleets are govd at 66 mph!! (Walmart, Roadway, some Schneiders & Werners, Yellow, etc....even Swift is 65 mph ands going up as I've heard!) When a truck is running at 64 mph, that truck makes "everybody" have to pull out and pass them....you want to sit there and flash ppl over til kingdom come????!!

You need to walk (or drive!) a 'mile in my moccasins!' :biggrin_25522:

Irrelevant---every driver knows the CA 55 mph Truck Speed Limit is only "suggested!" ha ha That means 62 mph for the regular CA drivers!! But read previous post----how would you like making ALL trucks have to pull out and pass you in heavy I10/!40 traffic?!!! :biggrin_25512:

actually in ca,i go 58-62.when i hit states with 75 limit, i do 78.sure use alot more fuel when i do that though-and since i'm the boss, i have to buy it also.thats why companies are cutting back trucks..fuel used at 65-70 is more than at 60-64. my 58-62 mileage is 6.6-6.8, at 75 it drops to 6.0-6.1.by the way i think i passed you the other day,LOL

I've been driving CA regularly for over 7 years and 60-62 mph wont get you a tkt unless they catch you in the hammer lane---that's the key, passing another truck waves a 'red flag' at the CHPS!! I do keep it at 60 mph at night unless in a convoy of brave souls!

But try running that 64 mph on the Interstates in places where the speed limit is 75 mph for just 1 hr---then you see what I mean by: You need to walk (or drive!) a 'mile in my moccasins!'

And mpg for 64 vs. 66 mph is not that big a diff---it's Knights way of 'punishing' their drivers for having high Idle rates---it's summer for Gods sakes, and most of our loads are live ld/unlds!! Not to mention waiting on loads at truck stops over the weekend!!!

I guess Knight has figured that when you are waiting for the unload at the delivery point, you must be sitting in the a/c'd driver's lounge watching the big tv screen they provide for you. You might also be using that fine shower facility they have also.

And when you are waiting on loads over the weekend. You are so highly paid, staying in a motel is no problem for you. After all, the qualcomm is wireless and you can take it to the motel with you.:biggrin_2559:

Tap your break pedal, a bad sensor can make it shut off truck, also same with cruise control, tap break, try and set cruise control again...

By choice I spent much of the last yr I was leased to Landstar at 65 or less. Much better MPGs than at 75. I've driven across NV, UT, WY, and even NE at 65 by choice. It seems like not much is happening.
