Hello everyone, I have my cdl a in Michigan and was blessed to have got an opportunity from a company in California. I’m moving to California in December and the company is working with me to employ me during that time while getting all the steps to become a California cdl holder. My question is, does anyone know how the transfer license process works? I do have an address of where I will be living in California. But will I need to retake the written test? And lastly if I get my passengers endorsement in Michigan will that also transfer or will I be better off waiting until I get to California to get my passenger endorsement?

Im going to ask the usual questions that are about to pop up here in a few mins.
1) Have you researched the company? What is their reputation? For that matter, what company is it? Dropping everything and moving half way across the country isnt a good idea unless its a good company. If its a fly by night outfit, you are stuck there with nothing.
2) As bad as Michigan is for CDL drivers, Commiefornia is much worse. Also consider the cost of living out there as far as housing and state taxes.
3) All endorsements transfer. You will have to retake the haz mat however.
4) It should take you as long to get your Commifornia license as it takes to go to the DMV and wait in line, pay whatever they charge and walk out the door. If you have a valid CDL in Michigan, all you need is a legal address to get it there. You may have to provide proof (like an electric bill for example) depending on the state.nextgentrucker, Rideandrepair, lual and 2 others Thank this. -
