My truck is almost ready to go into service so it's going to be time for front tires.
The rear tires unfortunately are a mixed set from another truck, but they are good and have plenty of tread.
I'm looking for a set of steer tires that are not Chinese junk, that are not going to be out of round when I put them onto the truck, that have the right number of Plies and that are a good tire.
On the other hand, I am most likely going to go back to 24.5 Tires I guess in a year or two, so the Steers would be going back onto the trailer.
So I guess what I'm saying is that since I'm planning on buying a complete set in the next year or two, what would be a good dependable set of steer tires that isn't the absolute top of the line?

They make a decent OTR steer tire with decoupling grooves.
Not China crap but not Michelin...bzinger, Rideandrepair, Diesel Dave and 3 others Thank this. -
You can get Toyos or Kuhmos for around $350 a piece if you shop around.
Rideandrepair, Dino soar and Intothesunset Thank this. -
Any tire can be good or bad. Just call your local shops and ask for non Chinese tire. Toyo and Yokohama are Japanese made I think. And some are Korean. You might find a deal on Kelly, Dayton, or Goodyear, Cooper, or General, I think they are all made in Ohio, or Indiana.

The Goodyear steers that just came off my truck were junk, literaly had them eat themselves, but the 4 drives have worn great. Michelins were put on my truck, which is what I prefer.
Dont see much bad about the Firestone FS951's though. Especially if you're only gonna run them a year.Rideandrepair and Dino soar Thank this. -
As long you avoid chinese tires you should find something that will be suitable at some point for your application. We ran Yokos as steers in big trucks for years. No complaints except one winter where a sidewall defect causes a viberation when it was just brand new. It was replaced with another Yoko on the steer. I believe those are Japanese made.
For light trucks I have found Hankooks (Which is Korean) to be adequate in terms of weight capacity and traction. Mileage is less of a concern.bzinger, Rideandrepair and Dino soar Thank this. -

Great tire. Last set went 180k no problem. Still had 7/32 and moved to the trailer. Truck has 1 million miles on it.1johnb, x1Heavy, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
BF goodrich, good price and I have used them for steers on several trucks for years, after trying just about every brand a guy can come up with besides all the chinese offerings.
Rideandrepair and Dino soar Thank this.
