Learn from your mistakes

 

We were back in Portage, IN that year. Husband worked at Welch Oil, now Fly J on Ripley St. in Lake Station. They plowed the driveway and kept it clean after a 22" dump of snow. He went down to Lowell, IN to plow at the station there. The toll road had trucks froze up and dead all the way to Elkhart, IN in both directions. I didn't hear of any casualties, but perhaps the drivers were picked up by Hwy patrol. It was a very bad winter. Summerfield next to Welch Oil had a lot of business with gelled trucks that winter.

 

We have just been BLESSED this year with a mild winter, especially in MY neck of the woods. If anyone has a follow-up on what's going on with that guy, please post.

I admittedly didn't read every post in this thread, but really people?!? If you owned this truck and trailer, you wouldn't fire this guy after this comedy of errors? Just how many mistakes does he make that cost you money before you let him go? This is on him, wholly and completely, because he is the one that made the wrong decisions at every possible turn.

BTW, the judges ruling was completely in line with the law.

 

Most any truck sleeper has a heater connected to the cooling system of the engine.
The a.p.u. will use if diesel fired down to low fuel warning and leave enough fuel to fire up and move. He should have had cab heat by firing up and idling. I have been in extreme cold and turned off the heaters so when I was cold was about a 30 minute nap then was able to go on before freezing up other components. but of course I grew up on a farm and watched my grandpa wrap burlap sacks around his boots to keep warm feet. where there's a will there's a way!

 

Yeah, once one reads the facts of the case itself and not news program nonsense, it is easy to conclude that the driver himself was a mental dolt and should have been terminated. I would have questioned Gorsuch's ability to think objectively had he sided with the driver. Here is the actual filing on the case.....

That's just the appeal, when you dig into the actual transcripts and see what he was asked and what the other facts were, there was no reason why he should have not gotten fired, much of his actions were his decisions, even if he thought he was doing the right thing.

The one thing in the appellate summary was this statement, tell me what's wrong with it - "Maddin discovered that his auxiliary power unit (“APU” or “bunk heater”) was not working and there was no heat in the cab of the truck."
