Okie Dokie?I care not about the system for fighting a ticket and do not believe I have adressed that in any manor.I have stated if convicted or plead guilty of a traffic violation 5 mph or greater I want draconian penalties enforced. How that gives me a big head you will have to explain.

I do not suffer the delusion of fairy tales.I take my oath to myself and no other. All that aside I do not harp on your mass delusion I will thank you to stick to the subject. Now to the subject at hand.Yes I'm sure you and many others have an anecdotal story of how you got screwed.I care not,and the stories are in general irrelevant as they start with "I was only doing ____ over the limit".Key word in all of your excuses is over. You were breaking the law.All of your justification's do not alter that fact.Is Ca. any safer at 55?I have no idea but the people have left a government in place that believes so.So you can either avoid that state, follow the law of that state, or pay the penalty for breaking it.

Having read this entire thread, I have to back Tazz on this one.

The speed limit is NOT a suggestion. It is the max speed allowed by the law.

Do I break that law on occassion? Sure do in my 4 wheel. Did I when driving a rig? Not intentionally.

Recent experience with just this issue.

Driving in the middle lane of a 3 lane section of road, to avoid the on/off ramp & hammer lane traffic.

Clear sunny day, moderate traffic, cars flying by like I am sitting still as I am stuck behind a garbage truck that can't decide if he wants to do 50 or 54 in this 60 MPH zone.

Wait until I am between sections with on/off ramps, no cars coming up in the right lane, move to the right lane to get around the garbage truck that now decides he wants to keep me from getting around him as we are coming up on a major interchange (3 miles ahead) with Loop 610 here in Houston.

Sure don't want to be stuck in the right lane when I get to the loop. So I step it up to a whopping 65 in the 60 zone to get around the moron in the garbage truck. Could have mashed the gas & pushed it a lot faster but was trying to be safety minded.

I was fully loaded, driving straight, not weaving in & out of traffic, not tailgating, just trying to get around a moron in order to get into a safe lane for the upcoming interchange.

HPD Truck Enforcement wrote me for 65 in a 60.

I have almost 15 years experience driving trucks with no moving violations or accidents. Wasn't a smart mouth with the LEO.

Don't believe this event warranted a ticket, dang sure don't think it deserves me losing my license for any amount of time & yes I am going to ask for a trial by judge to fight this & see if he has any more common sense than the LEO that wrote the ticket.

Ah yes the "They made me speed defense":biggrin_25512:

You chose to travel beyond the posted legal speed limit because waiting for the situation to resolve itself was inconveniencing you.

You are guilty by your own admission:biggrin_2551:

Yet expect the blame for your actions to be placed on others:biggrin_2552:

I hope the judge charges you extra for wasting the courts time:biggrin_25510:

    Tazz,

Even though I disagree with you on penalties, I am unable to refute them in a way that would change your opinion. As to how I derived mine, I question the reasoning, motivation and validity of the lawmakers.

You could probably have a career as a prosecutor if trucking doesn't work out.

To better understand your opinion, how would you set the penalties for violent crimes? Murder, assault, rape, and armed robbery surely deserve harsh punishment.

Concerning Rand's characters, I sympathize more with Ragnar Danneskjold.

The victims of "violent" crime (or their survivors) should be allowed the weapon of their choice and 15 minutes of the perpetrator(upon conviction) being in a recessed pit:biggrin_255: Of course I consider most welfare recipients perpetrators of violent crime they just use the governments gun to commit their crime. But I digress.

But I do not consider a two year suspension a harsh penalty. And I would further say that a change from monetary penalties which have been proven next to worthless to a withdrawal of driving privileges may prove the better deterrent to violators. How many people do you know who pay "extra attention" as they near point accumlations that would suspend their license?

Do government entities deliberately set up the public to earn revenue?Possibly but I care not as avoiding the trap simply requires that we not participate(don't speed).

    I prefer Rand's Ragnar to Robin Hood:biggrin_255:

I would agree. However I do find Rand's books entertaining as well as advocating and defining a set of beliefs.

But maybe another thread yes. This is about speeding.
