I'm sure it has been mentioned somewhere but I can't find it. How much does a lease operator pay for fuel? I know it changes daily but I'm just trying to get my head around costs for a lease operator. I looked around the Prime website and a new truck is around 975 a week(WOW) in the reefer division. Plus tire and maintenance funds.
Fuel costs

Did you forget a 1 in front of the 975?

Operators sign lease contracts with Success Leasing for their tractors. Lease payments ranging from $648-$910. Payment is based on type of truck available. A standard 4.5¢ per mile mileage charge is also applied to each lease.

My fuel costs average $.52-.54/mile. This week's fuel surcharge with JCT is $.44/mile. If you want to see some candid running numbers check out my thread. I dish out the real numbers and my experiences as a lease operator with JCT.

My fuel costs average far less than that with our fuel discounts and fuel surcharge and my good mpg numbers. I just paid $360 for 100 gallons of fuel,my fuel surcharge (for this load) is $280 on 570mi and I average 8mpg so Im gonna have fuel left for the next trip which means more fuel surcharge further decreasing my cost on this tank of fuel.

Check out the lease thread, and post any questions you have there.

The $975 includes all of your insurance. There are about $140 in additional costs... plates, permits, etc that are charged separately on your settlement. APU rental is separate... that was $70 the last time I checked.
You should get a couple of years experience on the company side before you even consider a lease. Make your mistakes there, where it won't cost you $$$. You also need the time to save up enough cash to get you through the rough spots... at least a couple of months worth of expenses. -
Payments can be as much as 1050 right now depending on the truck without the other fixed costs.
-
Right. I was figuring at 7 mpg. At 8 and $3.60/gal you're at .45/mile before fuel surcharge. Where is fuel that cheap? Or are you figuring after discounts and all.
-
That's after our corporate discounts... plus you can use the IFTA tax differences between states to even cut your price more.

We get lousy discounts but the company pays IFTA for us. Filled up in Oregon today for 3.62, YAY!
