If I don't start the truck for several weeks and the fuel lines freeze can I just plug it in for a few hours. Or wait until spring to start the truck.

No. It'll warm the coolant in the block but it won't do anything for the fuel lines. Best to mix in some antigel and run the engine so the treated fuel goes through the lines.

If you’ll need to start it after it gets cold and it’s still gelled then you’ll have to get heat under the truck to thaw the lines and filters. If you’re concerned and think you’ll be needing to start it when it’s cold I’d get some #1 or some antigel in the tanks and idle it for an hour or so to circulate it through the system.

Seen on the old episode of Ice Road Truckers, they used and Heater blower under the carriage to warm the engine up after it was sitting outside. However, it was inside the shop. I think it should work if you leave it outside.

Milwaukee makes a nice M18 heat gun. That may be the way to go in an emergency.

I've thawed out a bunch with a diesel heater ran off my generator. If there's not much wind, just open the hood and set it to where it's blowing mid engine, and angled back.

About 20-30 minutes usually and you're GTG

Grab a couple cans/transfer tank and go get some kero from a local fuel guy,

I love the diesel we get up here. It won't even cloud when its -30°C

Best part about running up there. If they were calling for a cold snap I’d stop and top off at the card lock in Sparwood or the J in Nanton.
