With their automated system, part of registering the check involves noting if it's a person or business and then they require the name the check is made out to when you call to register it. When I know I have to cut a comcheck for a lumper, I'll go in with my notepad and find out how much $ and what the company name is to make the check out to. 2 quick questions can save hours of hassle: "How much?" and "Who do I make the check out to?"

I always leave the pay to the order to blank. The last time I paid a lumper fee, I had to wake my dispatcher up at 3:30am El Paso time to issue me a comcheck because there ended up being a lumper fee that we weren't aware of when we booked the load. $60 for a straight pull of a single product.
