I thought this video was funny, but it inspired a question based on an incident that occurred on a Bay Area HOV lane: a motorist was cited for having a life-like mannequin in the passenger seat in order fraudulently use the HOV lane.
With the onset of human-like robots becoming a scary reality, it would seem likely that people would duplicate the HOV lane scam with these robots.
I imagine that the argument will be that since the robot is regarded as a real human being by its owner, because that is what is ultimately being pushed, the robot should then be recognized as a sentient being.
If you are a fan of the sci-fi series Star Trek: Next Generation, you may remember that the character 'Data' was an intelligent android created by a human, and went through a process in which he was recognized as a sentient being.
Do you think this possibility exists?

A few people have tried that stunt with stuffed animals and blow up dolls in the HOV lanes on I-93 going into Boston.
Needless to say, state police are less than amused!LMAO
They’re not exactly known to have a sense of humor on such matters!Last edited: Oct 1, 2023

But if the robot is driving and you are in the passenger seat, does that change it?

That’s a question best answered by Tesla owners.
