Hey Rolls, I just wanted to share that I completely feel your pain. I was on vacation a over July 4th week when I got a call from my daughter screaming saying my shop was on fire. 24x36' building I built myself with everything important to me in it other than my wife and I and our camper that we were in.
I'm just starting to accept this and take inventory.

It seems to have been electrical in nature, insurance investigator was here yesterday.

I have good insurance but it will never replace the lifetime collection of automotive and woodworking tools, nor will it replace my car which was inside (not a classic but a car I liked), nor will it replace my Dad's hand me downs or the stuff I made with my son while he was growing up.

I'm blown away. I can only imagine what you are going through as well. I hope you are starting to put things back together.

When it rains it pours. Seems to be the case all too often. I understand the connection between old tools inherited from family. Keeps their memory alive. The Maserati. That hurts me, and it’s not even mine.

86scotty, that really sucks, I'm truly sorry for your loss.
I would not wish that on an enemy, don't have any, but, whatever.
It's something you can't Imagine unless/until it happens to you.

I try to not think about any of it, just focus on the task at hand.
I bought a Lull tele-handler to take the roof off, to replace w/ metal roofing.
I'm gonna do the same with metal siding all around, too.

This machine needed the steering valve replaced, and boom cyl. repacked to use it.
Got steering squared away, now to move it out of the way to repack the cylinder.
No key, so I just installed the new switch, and came in and saw these new messages.

    86scotty Thanks this.

Just realized I didn't fill everyone in on the zoning gods.
I bit the bullet and went down to see them and asked for a building permit.
They asked what for, I said to put metal roofing and metal siding on the building that burnt.
I was informed I do not need a permit if I am replacing roofing and siding with no modifications.
You could have pushed me over with a feather.
What? No flaming hoops? That was good news.

It's a small miracle! It's amazing how they don't tell you about the good stuff and that you got to dig and dig to find that info out! Such as in my case with the SS dept (pun intended)
And sorry to read about what happened to you 86scotty -it does seem like nice guys finish last is true...

    So today was my birthday.
Weeee (Like the pig in a car with a pinwheel commercial.)
    Seventy one years young.

Spent the day getting my LULL tele-handler forklift to start, and stop, and turn off.
Grease up to my elbows, and New steering valve leaked on my boot, but was just a loose fitting.
I just Marveled at what an absolute beast this thing is.
Who builds vehicle frames out of inch and a half thick plate steel? 12 tons worth.

All 4 steering cylinders leak, but, no surprise. One at a time, later on they come off to rebuild.
So I tried out the crab steer, oblique steer, and front steer. Crazy stuff, but could be useful.
Hi range gets pretty bouncy. So I took a chance on this and it looks good so far.
The garage fire story sucks bigtime, but this win lessens the blow somewhat.
I'll take a small win anytime; besides, it's my birthday!

    Opus Thanks this.
