If that's the best advice why didn't you take it or better yet why don't you hand your truck over to him and you go company everyone got negative comments that person is grown he didn't say he was broke just that gee had bad credit either point him in the right direction out be quiet and see what helpful people do for him it what he accomplishes and people wonder why trucking us going to hell all we do is bring ppl down for wanting to be more than they already are someone motivated you our you had it all easy for your entire life

Where there's smoke there's fire. Success isn't sure with capital. A few short years of sacrifice saving up can put a person ahead in the game. Anyone can do it if they can hold a steady job. The problem with most guys that have bad credit is they have poor money management skills and think the money in trucking is easy and quick. Until op gives more details that show otherwise all we can do is figure he's just the next likely failure who could use a reality check before he ruins his life.

bad credit can come from a divorce with a spouse who lacked money management skills as well.

I know I am still trying to recover from things my ex did.

Don't have perfect credit - actually 2 years out of bankruptcy (called a "strategic default" nowadays) - sub 600 FICO.

Which is why I asked what his "plan" was.

Any plan you have - at least you gotta have one.

I outlined mine, wasn't being stuck up or arrogant.

My reply was somewhat defensive, and I really do have no wish to be involved in forum pi$$ing contests - I've gotten a lot of great help from people here, and don't want to alienate anyone.

I'm going in all cash - because of credit history/bankruptcy, and not having any debt service to worry about - DECREASES stress, and INCREASES chances of success. It lets me have a bad week/month, and not freak out over potentially losing my equipment/investment.

That's my game-plan for now - anything/everything is subject to change. For MY SANITY LEVEL, I'm playing it that way. Not saying that that's the ONLY WAY to play it - just sharing how I'm going to accomplish my goals.

    Regards,

    Rick

Speaking from recent experience, owning and operating a truck is so much more expensive than you may think! We are extremely lucky and net a few thousand a week from a contract we have at our weld shop, but otherwise we would not have made it one month.

I was shocked by how much things like insurance, DOT, FUEL really add up. It was a kick in the gut to write a check for 40,000 for apportion plates, as well.

One day, I checked my online bank statement to realize (almost overnight!) we were literally 100k overdrawn in our checkbook and in serious trouble. It was the most stressful thing I have had to endure thus far. We ended up selling some sub-par farm land and got things cleared up.

Without a line of credit, we wouldn't have made it the first week. If you are going to try it...make sure you get set up with a factoring service beforehand!! That is one thing I would have done different. We are still waiting for some payments...when you are first starting out, those payments make or break you.
