No right turns on red, no floating gears, and don't hit anything.

That's all a starter is really looking for from my experience.

I heard that an "experienced" driver could not put it in 3rd gear from 2nd and was forced to train for 180 hrs or go home. So If you can make it to the roadway you should be fine, rookie!

@AnthonyM757 I'm in the same boat and had the same worries. Haven't drove since the first week on December and 48 footers at that. I've read on here a few times use your mirrors, don't hit anything and show you care about safety and they'll look past the imperfections. We'll find out Tuesday for me.

    AnthonyM757 Thanks this.

Companies are desperate for druvers. They will hire you as long as you dont wreck truck on road test

Thats about it. Drive it around the block and dont hit anything. There are quite a few that will show up for orientation and get sent home because they cant drive around the block. You can be slow, just don't drag the trailer over the curb.

    AnthonyM757 Thanks this.

Bore them to death with lengthy post trip, then hike up your britches, and own that road test like a boss.

Hands 10 and 2, shift 'em, look in them mirrors, be confident, no small talk.

    You'll be fine. Good luck.

    OH !

    Well, you should have said.

With them, it'll be an experienced driver from the terminal, and he'll be looking for all the right things - just as others have described.

If you haven't hooked up a set before, then tell him/her, and let them instruct you on the safe way to do it - lots of threads here on the subject (LTL section).

Small talk OK, as your tester will probably be a bit on the 'in crowd' with the terminal.

Tug tests, good pre-trip, seatbelt, 10 and 2, smooth going, confident - you'll be fine. Great job. Enjoy!
