I already have a twic card which I received a week after submitting application, got an automated phone telling me I was approved in just 5 days. Is the hazmat screening just as quick?. I will be going through NY dmv as that’s my state of residency so if anyone has insight into NY great other states also great?.

Hazmat takes about 3 weeks or 5 weeks then a letter is sent to you.
tscottme Thanks this. -
hopefully for me it will be closer to 3 weeks.

I got a letter back within a week. But this was a renewal, maybe that's why.
There was a website on the receipt, you can check the status of your Backround Check. -
I got my letter less than than 10 days after fingerprints. Hadn't had a hazmat in 11yrs.
Funny thing though, I still haven't went down and taking the test lol.
The letter doesn't exspire for five yrs. -
Last time I got my hazmat letter it was just an acknowledgment of the OK to go test. At least in Georgia the data was sent directly to Georgia DMV. I took my letter but it was not needed.

Mine only took about 4 days with the twic. Not sure if the twic was the reason.

My twic took all of 5 days from filing on a Wednesday, and getting my card on the following Monday, lady at the twic office said since I had a current dod clearance that it would be quick
-
I took my Hazmat test and fingerprints on the same day. I never received a letter, but got my new CDL in the mail in 10 days. That was in California. Go figure.
RedRover Thanks this. -
I just recently renewed my hazmat. Think it was two weeks to get the clearance letter. Then it took a month to get an appointment to take the test to renew my license. BRING THE LETTER WITH YOU!! That BS about the TSA sending the clearance to the DOT directly doesn’t always happen. When I went to renew my license the DMV didn’t have anything saying I was cleared. They tried to turn me away in typical “not our problem” fashion, but luckily I brought my clearance letter. Two hours later of the DMV person making phone calls I was allowed to take the hazmat test, and renew my license. Don’t ever put any trust in the government handling things for you.
Brickwall, Lepton1 and easytopleez33 Thank this.
