HAZMAT Question

Just a guess but I would think the paperwork should show it is under the amount to be considered a HM load.
All the HM loads I have hauled have been full loads.
So I would think not the class of the HM but the quantity.

 

Yes. If you have the placard, it has to be on the manifest or BOL as Hazmat material.

Why?

Because if you get into an accident, the identification of the material you have on your truck has to be listed along with the other needed info, like the MSDS and the Emergency response number on the manifest.

 

I think the answer is yes the paperwork has to have all info if the material is haz-mat. Even if you don't have enough of said material to placard the trailer.

But that's a straight up guess. I only do tanker loads . With placards ....

 

You need a Hazmat declaration to move the truck in public roads. In it you have product description, quantity and emergency contact #....if you don't, DOT or police can put you OOS.

 

What states do you run? Are you sure your company is properly insured and licensed in the appropriate states to transport hazardous materials of sufficient quantities to require placards?

The bill should show class, UN number, and correct description; then it should show "under reportable quantity" (sometimes with an "X" or no "X" in a column with that header).

 

Yeah, I did food service and we had the same thing. Box or two of bleach or something. has to be on the tail, separate from other stuff and you'll get some kind of paperwork with it that shows what exactly you are carry. (5 gallons of bleach or whatever) with all the UN, class, etc stuff.

Supposed to keep the paperwork for that in the door.

THEY NEVER CARED. Multiple level 1's. Just wanted to see the invoices (like you no BOL's) and and never opened the door, looked for the hazmat paperwork and I certainly wasn't volunteering.

Yes they do like others said.If there is an emergency like a spill the emergency team needs to know what you're hauling How much ect ect.So always make sure your Bill matches what you are hauling otherwise you and your company may get a steep fine.
