Which school will you attend?
Get all the endorsements.
How old are you? There is no maximum age to be a trucker, but there are minimum ages. -
im going to AIT In Phoenix and im 34 going on 35..

Just be calm. It's nerve racking the first time you get in one of these things. They are loud and it's hard to see out of. Of course all of that is just because you are used to driving a car. Trucks actually have great visibility, you just need to learn how to use it. Shifting will be hard and you may feel like you will never get it but you will, just be calm when you miss a gear.Danny N Angel, austinmike and Chinatown Thank this.

And get every endorsement you can.
Friend and austinmike Thank this. -
I think AIT pushes Werner real hard. There's a dozen other choices available. What type trucking do you want?
-
They are the main recruiter for people looking to get there cdl"s for Werner. Right now I just want to get thru driving school and the externship. As far as what type of driving , not sure right now
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Werner owns AIT. They bought the school a couple years ago.
Anyway, you'll figure out what you want after the externship. Lots of good jobs for Phoenix drivers, from long haul, local, milk tankers, LTL, etc. @ethos gave excellent advice, "get all the endorsements."
Here's one example:

Ok kewl I'm thinking OTR or regional,
-
Roehl Transport flatbed has regional.
Titan Transfer - dry van
Freymiller - new cdl grad OR 6 mos. experience. Refrigerated trucking.
Watkins-Shepard - dry van
Navajo Express - OTR & regional refrigerated & dry van
Danny Herman Trucking - no northeast runs. Dry van.
Butler Transport - refrigerated
Dynamic Transit - refrigerated
East-West Inc. (www.goeastwestinc.com) - dry van
Abilene Motor Express - dry van & some refrigerated
Eagle KMC Transportation - dry van
(I'd look closely at companies that provide APU in the trucks. APU is "Auxillary Power Unit" which is used when the truck engine is shut off. APU gives you air conditioning, heat, electrical power for refrigerator, computer, cooking, television, etc. Some provide Direct TV and satellite radio.)Last edited: May 17, 2017
