I thought I would just say hi to the group... been lurking here for a bit and figgered I'd introduce myself.
I decided a couple of months ago to take up trucking, my Dad trucked, and I rode the cab with him a lot when I was younger. I then took off moved away and followed another career for the next 20 some ought years. Then I left to take up a trade..... My timing couldn't be worse, I live in Alberta and everyone knows what the economy did here. So I took a few months off, thought about it and decided to take up trucking for awhile.
So I just got my class 1, Sent out a bunch of apps, got a lot of responses, and now just trying to decide ho I want to go with.
Lots of experience here and I hope to take advantage and contribute.
TIA

Hi 2ndGenner, welcome aboard. You're in the right place. You have a leg up already, riding with your dad, you know what it's about. My old man HATED trucks, and couldn't believe I wanted to do that, ( I showed him, though) and had to start at square one. I've been out of the loop for many years now, so can't help you with any places to go. A member here, Chinatown, seems to know that aspect the best, but many here work all over and can give you the best advice. Make sure you say where you want to go, OTR, local, as that narrows the field considerably, and EVERYONE is looking for drivers, so it can be overwhelming. When you go to companies, try and talk to the other drivers, that's the best way to find out about a company. Best of luck.
2ndGenner Thanks this. -
Welcome and yeah what what he said

Well I'm not gonna get too picky.... I do want a variety of experience, with the exception of tooling around in the bush doing off road work. I'm married so I want a decent home/work balance. So those are my considerations. But I have noticed everyone wants drivers to do trans border hauls. Which is fine by me.

Welcome to the rat race. Last I heard the rats are winning by a very large margin....
