Been out of a truck for 11 years. Have roughly 1.7 million miles and 22 years at the craft. Found new profession but now I'm getting a bit old for the physical demands. So I'm foolishly trying to get back into a truck. Looks like a rough row to hoe. Dispise the thought of going to school again especially since I still have my CDL. Wish me luck.

WELCOME Crusty, are thinking maybe doing flatbed work ? It keeps you in shape, You don't want to stay without doing any physical activities.

Simplyred, KC, Baack and KH. Thanks for your welcome, best wishes and information. I really do appretiate it.
Diesel Dave. I have done flatbed in the past. Also dry van, double dry van, smoothbore wet, dry bulk, even hauled cars my first year. No OD. A few 200K loads. The thing about flats is those heavy lumber tarps. I just don't think I can handle them without a real struggle anymore.
King Hunter: A small company would be preferable. O.O.'s are some of the best people out there. But the maintenance on their equiptment leaves something to be desired. Sitting waiting on a mechanic or a tow does not pay the bills. Health insurance is a concern also. The Challenger, Baack and kickin chicken Thank this. -
Have you tried applying with Watkins Shepard?? They have a terminal in Dalton GA.
KHBaack, kickin chicken and simplyred1962 Thank this. -
Hey there KH.
If Watkins Shepard is the same base outfit it was; that may not be an option. There was a Watkins that had an offshoot company called Landspan. I worked for them about eight days. After two trips I landed in N.C. doing local work and yard work for an absurd hourly wage. I turned the truck in when I got back to Atlanta. They were not happy. So; if their records go back far enough; that's a lost cause.
I think that I may contact Katlaw driving school. They have a place very close to me. I believe my options will be better if I do the school.
Thanks for the suggestion.simplyred1962 and kickin chicken Thank this.
