I've been a lurker on this site for over a year and decided to finally join.
I'd like to tell you a little about myself.
I'm 59 years old, married for 38 years to my high school sweetheart. We have two children and one grandchild.
I am currently a computer programmer with a BS in Computer Science.
The company I work for is talking about offering early retirement to employees who have been with the company for 15 years or more (this includes me). This may seem counter-intuitive, but the computer industry evolves so rapidly, that it is very difficult for people who are not going to school to keep up. As a result, it is often better for a company, in terms of payroll and technical knowledge, to periodically purge the more experienced people.
I drove truck when I was in my mid 20's for a lumber yard here in Salt Lake. The runs were generally a single over-night (leave home in the morning, return home the next day). I enjoyed this a great deal, but unfortunately and accident put an end to it.
Well, that's pretty much me in less that 300 words. I'd like to just say 'hi' to everyone
