I have been lurking around on this forum for a year now and lot of good info is here so I decided to make an account here because I have some questions I need to get answered. First I would like to tell you about my self I am a few days from hitting my 1st year mark with Us Xpress I have done 4 months of otr in eastern united states and 8 months of Walmart Dedicated in Texas lot of local DFW loads and long ones like Mc Allen,Corpus Christi, and Brownsville . I drive sleeper cabs and day cabs just depends on how many miles I need to drive or if I have a back haul. I have my hazmat ,doubles, triples, and Tanker endorsements on my CDL.

I am really wanting to be local Driver AKA(LTL) in the DFW area so I can haul freight and offload it because I want the work out. I Also miss being on set schedule meaning I know when I need to come in and not having to wait on the phone to be told when I need to come in like my current job. I put in an application last Monday (6 days ago counting today 2-8-15) I haven't heard a thing yet so that worries me but its probably my fault because I job hopped a bit after my trucking school.

I went to work for pam for 2 months and they were slow paying me I couldn't take it anymore. So I went to us xpress I had to do 190 hour training because my driving school wasn't 150 hour training school that they required. So I did the 190 hour training long story short I had few issues going on in my life and had to leave after I finished my training. 2 months later I came back to work at us xpress to re due my training it was going to be another 190 hour training which I expected to do again I was quite surprised they even took me back after leaving. Anyways after a few days my trainer said,"why are you on my truck you know how to drive your backing is weak but you can drive." So he called his supervisor and got my training reduced to 50 hours and we spent the rest of the time working on my backing and just running loads. A week later I was dropped off in Tunnel Hill and got upgraded. There has been some ups and downs now its a year later here I am.

Other than the job hopping I have sport bike speeding ticket I got in early 2013 before I got my CDL and warning ticket in my personal car in late 2014 because I had a light out and 69 in a 60. I am not wanting a pity party I just want to be real with yall before I start asking for advice

If I may add to Chinatown's list:

YRC has openings right now (Fort Worth, I think).
So does FedEx Freight out of Dallas.

Lots of Frac Sand Driver jobs - if that's something you are in to (but you have to venture out to West Texas for most which I know you said you'd like to stay local, however most claim that you get home every night about 97 percent of the time).

Check Craigslist Daily. You should be able to find a pretty decent local gig with a legit company in DFW. I've been looking for the past week and there have been lots of good local stuff. I don't remember the company name, but someone was advertising heavily to work for a small outfit out of Grand Prairie/Arlington.

    Good luck!

Thanks guys for the info sorry it took me awhile to get back with yall life has been busy with Us Xpress and Walmart. I noticed you guys have mentioned some industrial gas company's I wanted to mention that if anyone goes to work for them just a word of caution. Most of the trucks they have are the straight trucks and few day cabs to pull a small trailers ,micro bulk units and then to pull the bigger loads.

If things dont work out at the Industral gas company and you been working there for a few years you mite have a hard time trying to get on at Local company ltl company. Due to the fact you were driving the straight trucks and the shorter trailers instead of the 53ft trailers most ltl company's like to use.

I only know this because my dad he went through the same issue after quitting one after 7 years of service he had to do a year of otr but he got home on weekends. So I am not sure what the proper title of that would be. I just thought would be some good info to let people know about. Not that I am bashing industrial gas company's people because need their welding gasses and hospitals need oxygen. Just something to think about when applying for one.
