My name is Butch. I go by FreedomFirst in the forum. I started driving one of my father's trucks in 1974. I look back on it now ,and wonder where the time went. When I started you still were not required to get a physical. PA state cops could not look at your logbook a PUC man had to ,but the PUC man couldn't write you a ticket if you were in violation . The state cop had to write it go figure.
Weight wise we were at 73,280 and 55 ft maximum length. I could get 4 or 5 racks of automotive on my 45' by 96" dry van . Progress got the best of us when the 48' by 102" vans came out . You could get 8 or 10 racks on then so you hauled two loads for less money.
I look back at my fathers generation ,and they were really men. I grew up watching him shift mack duplex and triplex transmissions. two stick 4by4's ,and 5speed spicer's with a 4 speed brownie auxilary behind it. From where we are in PA it took them about 10 hours to go to Boston,Mass about 310 miles with a Diamond T with a 185hp cummins and a 10 speed fuller roadranger.
In any event I like to shoot guns, lift weights ,motorcycle, snowmobile, drive atv's, and enjoy my family. I would like to say a BIG HELLO to all of you ,and hope that you are all happy and healthy. If there is any way that I can help any of you please don't be afraid to ask.,
