You can check air pressure on trailer tires and dorp a gear, but honestly you might save 1-3%. Your real problem lies under the hood.

You boys quit hauling that cheap freight and don't sweat this small stuf The small fleet I run for has 07 and 14 trucks and they all get about 6 mpg running hot and heavy. And 80K truck is pretty efficient at this rate of consumption. Hell my Yukon only gets 15 mpg hauling my butt around...LOL...This is all just another excuse for the "MAN" to pay chitty wages. "I can't afford to pay better because fuel is so high." blah blah blah... I mean you burning 2 or 3 THOUSAND dollars in fuel every week and you worried about a few TENTHS.......Party on.

I hear these drivers boast of these big numbers also but we have new trucks with this new stuff on it and have saw nothing to back this up. As stated earlier we run heavy and even in the southeast deal with many rolling hills constantly up and down. Maybe some of these extra ordinary MPG numbers can be accomplished in the mid west where terrain is flat and loads are light. But in the real world folks run those trucks full and heavy and are just concentrating on MPG because it is by far the biggest expense. Including that 200K truck and trailer you riding.

Can you run as many loads per day as your hours allow? Or is there a limited amount of freight. At $2.10/mile, you shouldn't slow down if it costs you an extra load. But if you can only make, say, 4 trips/day, drive just fast enough to reliably finish 4 trips...
Buy low RR tires when yours wear out. Drive smoothly and as if your brakes don't work well (e.g. coasting 1/2 mile before speed limit changes rather than braking at the sign).Last edited: Apr 20, 2014

And mine says I'm getting 55 MPG coasting down hill but at the end of the day you got to stick that nozzle in the tank and mashed it til she's full......LOL

That's trip (592 miles) not instantaneous. The computer does read a little high, the actual will be around 8.3.
