So I’m running a 10 spd series 60 14l, 3.73 gears. I just installed new turbo and had filter burnt.(California) the truck is going horribly slow up the hills I’m talking 18 mph. I was thinking of switching gears 3.42 help with speed and run at a lower rpm. What gears would you recommend???

What gear are you in, how much weight you pulling, what rpm are you at and how steep a grade are you pulling?

if the truck wont pull with 373 rears it will be a real turd with 342 sounds like you need a 13spd or more power or both
Roberts450, magoo68 and AModelCat Thank this. -
If you can not pull a hill in 6th gear why would you try 7th gear? You need to down shift to gain power. If the truck has 3.73 gears going to 3.42 will be worse.
Better question is, was the truck able to pull the hills before it was worked on? Why did you change the turbo? Did someone tell you that would fix your problems? It might be to your advantage to have an experienced shop check the engine. How many miles are on the truck? How long have you owned it? Do you have maintenance records? -
How was the truck pulling before? Leave the 3.73s right where they are you'll just be throwing $$$ out the window. 3.73s are the best balance between pulling power and still get good mpg if your not constantly running 70+ which in cali you ain't

Thr turbo locked up and actuator wasn’t functioning right according to freightliner. Thr did the work. The truck had 650k on it. Going on three years with the truck -
I’m being passed up on hills and flat land by trucks with smaller engines. Thr truck has been struggling with power/ picking up speed -
I feel a little more power with the new turbo and exhaust burnt, 480 hp I figured I’d be doing better then 18 mph
