I would terminate his employment immediately, throw away all the logs he handed in, claim he was not handing them in. This is financial ruin when the lawyer catches up with what you've been allowing to happen even when a minor indecent occurs. That's if you survive the dot long enough to get to that point.
Or would you rather be the next carrier written up for "placed out of service for an imminent threat to public safety" ?
Help with previous logs.

Following up...
... I can log into my company web site and see all my fuel transactions from Comdata, tracked to the minute and showing the discounted price I paid for fuel.
IMHO Comdata would be your solution as long as you make it absolutely clear to all your drivers that their logs MUST be exact to fuel stops. That will clear up the problem in a hurry.
If you let drivers pay cash or use other means of payment, then you give up that control and are begging for problems. -
The OP was trying to "Make" logs based upon fuel receipts only. She stated they are "new" to this business.
I hope she understands the serious of her situation. All this driver has to do is get stopped for a taillight out and the LEO asks for his logs... game is up. -
I agree. Cut through all the talk about elogs and OOS and lawyers and fines. Even if you put this driver on elogs, you're STILL going to have problems.
Why?
(read carefully so you don't miss the point)
THIS DRIVER DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING. HE DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE HOS. If you are an employer and hired this steeringwheelholder (that's all he will be on his best day), were you hiring him because he was an Experienced Driver? If he cannot do a logbook according to the regs, he is NOT an experienced driver. If you have to hold his hand and clean up his mess, he is NOT an experienced driver. Fire him. He is not as advertised.
If you are thinking elogs will fix this problem, you are deceiving yourself, because even with elogs, a driver has to know the HOS like the back of his hand. Otherwise, he will not be productive enough to keep a truck on the road.MJ1657 Thanks this. -
I can't wait for the day we switch to elogs. Anything to cut down on paperwork is OK by me.

Obviously truckergirl didn't like the answers we gave her.
Six, the problem isn't with the driver, it is with them not being able to hire someone or take it seriously enough to learn how to run a business. This is one of the biggest issues I see facing owners with established fleets and the depressing of rates. -
Like I posted on another thread, too many people with their own authority that don't know what they are doing.
If the OP new what she were doing, she would know how to fix this.
Clue: fixing his logs for him or putting him on e-logs ain't gonna fix it. -
In total agreement. I pointed out the driver because they don't even know what makes an experienced driver. She's thinking that she can find a simple solution, such as putting the driver on elogs, and it's not going to work.

Eh, on the bright side, carriers like this give the dot something to do. Keeps them off my backside.
