Short story, husband just bought his semi and got in a wreck. Insurance is trying to pay out what he put the value of it which he put 20k. But the value The insurance came up with was 43K. Are we able to fight for the 43k?

Your husband undervalued his truck to pay a cheaper premium & now he wants the insurance to pay the true value. I learned that the hard way not that big of spread but not pay a measly $17 more cost me $2k because I was being cheap. You can't expect the insurance company to pay more when you didn't want to cover your equipment properly. That's the purpose of buying the right amount of insurance for times like these.
I hope the best for you & you will recover its just a costly learning lesson. I hope no one was hurt. Equipment can be replaced or repaired human body are totally different

Yes he did, just now starting the company he was taking his agency advice to get it lower. Yes a lesson learn but we weren’t sure if we could fight for the value so we could replace the semi

Sorry, dear, don't look good. Hubby probably undervalued the truck to get a better rate, and it came back to bite you. Now, I'm not crying for the ins. companies, but this happens all across our country, and the ins. companies rule the roost. I'm not rippin' on you, we all did what we could to save a buck, it's just today, you simply can't win.

If possible take the 20k put it down on another truck (so you keep things running) pay off if you owe anything on the wrecked one.(sell it for parts if you can). Do what you can to get back to running & learn from this. Been there before as well

Here’s some sound advice, insure your equipment for what it’s worth.

Trucks aren’t insured like cars, you set a value on a truck and if it’s worth the value you set you get that if it’s considered a total loss. If it’s worth more than what you have it valued at you are out of luck, if it’s worth less than what you have it valued at you are out of luck.

So we’re not able to fight with the insurance? I’m trying to get what I can because we bought it that day and we’re coming home . So it’s a complete loss for us. Didn’t even get to do a run yet

Well, it's a heck of a start, but I admire your enthusiasm. Trucking is all about taking it in the shorts, and how well you recover from that. I say, don't waste any time on this, get another truck, if you can, and try again. Insurance companies today are nothing to screw with, they call the shots, are all in cahoots, and can end your dreams in a hurry. There's no question, insurance companies will be the death of this country.
I just read your post, on the way home???? Good heavens, dear, not sure how to react to that. We certainly get all kinds of dilemmas here.

What are you going to fight them over? You have no leg to stand on, you insured the truck for $20k, not a higher amount.

    NavigatorWife and 201 Thank this.
