New to the forums though I've ran across conversations on here a few times. I'm a company driver with about 11 months OTR and about 123,000 miles so far. I have a lot of passion for this work but I'm also trying to plan my next move. My core idea is to stay company long enough to have some reasonable principle and a better credit rating before making the move to O/O. The problem is I don't know where to start, I only make .34cpm and even with all my mileage I'm breaking even, but at the same time I don't want to get greedy and jump ship before I have representable time and mileage to get me access to better companies. Anyways I am here to try to learn a thing or two, and hopefully make some good connections.
Hey there!

Where is your location? Something is seriously wrong if you're only breaking even.
BigTennOTR Thanks this. -
I'm at the Love's in Whitestown, IN. Well a wonderful roomate skipped out on 8min months rent for which I wasn't notified about which had tripled to almost $11,000 in debt, it took me all of last year to pay it off while still covering the total rent until January, then I moved everything into a storage unit and ghosted out of town. I've been putting some away but that still is making anything decent a 5 year prospect.

You're one of thousands of drivers living in a truck. Won't take long to be in good financial shape. Try to enjoy your travels across the USA and make it an adventure if possible. Lots of other drivers doing it. Hope you're with a decent company that has nice trucks for your apartment on wheels. You from Indiana?

Nope, I'm from Virginia. My companies stocks are in the dirt right now, mostly due to cooking the books for their lease operations group, I've got money ready in case I have to grab a rental. I want to move to a better company but I still have one more month until my first year is complete, I just don't want my reports to make it look like I'm shifty because jumping from company to company. If I could hold out for two years I will, but the company doesn't look like it will be stable for much longer.

You don't need to wait 2 yrs. or even 1 year. Find something better and jump ship. Very few new drivers last one year with their first company.
Probably hang in there another month and have something lined up at that point
