My hood is no longer dropping down into place.
Found the hinge on the driver's side missing the bushings on the lower bolt. Don't know if this is the cause, but the bushings should definitely be replaced.

Can I simply remove that lower nut and bolt and install the two new bushings without supporting the front of the hood? I'm concerned about the alignment getting further out of wack if I loosen something in the incorrect sequence.

If you can get a stack of pallets with some carpet on top so it will not rough up the pant, then you can replace the bushing one side at a time

That way you have a hood that shuts right

It's all going to depend on whether the bolts are fixed or removable. If you are able to remove the bolts, you should be able to replace the bushings without removing the hood (with the help of a prybar, probably).

Well, I got the new bushings installed...what a pain. Problem is that every once in awhile the hood still decides to go off-center when it's being closed. I can't really see any kind of hood "adjustment" mechanism. Am I missing something? I'm wondering if the front hinge pins are severely worn.

If you think those are a pita, you should try a T660....
If a paccar is a paccar is a paccar....the bolts go through a steel bushing and both the bolt and bushing can wear down, and those will need the hood to be supported.

We're talking about the main hinges, correct?

Yep, the pins/bushings on the hood itself

My main pins were worn down about 1/16" all the way around. Even with the hood supported, I had to drive them out with a 3# hammer.

If it's once in a while the truck is probably on uneven ground. If not, there are quite a few adjustment processes Peterbilt has. If I recall correctly there is up and down in relation to the front bumper - Fore and aft in relation to the cowl - up and down in relation to the cowl - side to side in relation to the cowl.
