Not a really big deal but I am curious. Can an employer alter your logs without consent?
Here's the situation. At the end of every day, I show my post trip, then I switch over to off duty. I then switch over to inactive driver (in case the shop pulls my truck in for service) I always verify off duty status before switching to inactive. So anyway, I get a phone call, dispatcher asked about the job we had did that day then says, "oh by the way, you didn't log out" however he hesitated and changed it to, "you stayed on duty" I know I verified off duty status, but anyway got in truck this morning and sure enough as soon as I went active, showed me on duty for exactly the amount of time for my post trip plus the time I would have been off duty. No big deal editing to get my hours back but still. To go from inactive to active or log in, you need driver code and password, in this case, the last four of my social. The office staff have ready access to this information and the only way another driver could have switched it, other than getting into the office, would be to unlock my truck, climb in and enter that information.

I don't know if it's legal but I do know they are covering their ### not yours. This happens to me a lot on the cross Bronx in NY. I go on duty because I am not moving. 5 miles in 90 minutes sometime. A few days later I will get a message stating that my duty status was changed. I honestly don't care if I get a reset in soon after. BTW, the line will be a different color and have the users alpha code in details. This way DOT doesn't get on my butt.

Driver Certifies they logs >> goes to Portal >> company sees logs, can change anything but line 3 >> sends back to driver for certification again.

Understand that, however, I am parked and done for day. I leave the truck and go home in my personal vehicle.

Maybe you changing to off duty then going to inactive isn't "taking"...
-
I don't know. I always verify off duty before returning to the log in screen to hit inactive. -
Yes. they can and always been able to, even on paper the only thing actually required by the driver is the signature.

Wow, PJ, bro... I am not picking on you I promise. I even didn't comment on a different post where you said you were docking "friends" trailers in a company truck NOT owned by you, taking on liability of OTHER trailers on OTHER peoples property having NOTHING to do with you or your company.
But LOTS more is required on a log from the driver than just a signature. You have to know this. Come on man.
Question 24: When must a driver complete the signature/certification of the driver’s record of duty status?
Guidance: In general, the driver must sign the record of duty status immediately after all required entries have been made for the 24-hour period. However, if the driver is driving at the end of the24-hour period,he/she must sign during the next stop. A driver may also sign the record of duty status upon going off duty if he/she expects to remain off duty until the end of the 24-hour period.
To answer the question, a company can NOT change logs WITHOUT CONSENT, although they have the ability to. Just the same as they could alter paper logs but it wouldn't be legal. It is still YOU certifying that it is accurate/true/correct. -
I always log out when I go home. Truck movement can be put on you otherwise.LoneCowboy Thanks this.

A compatible ELD they can change all the times (yes, even drive can be reassigned) The driver has to certify the "corrections" though. This is all part of the ELD mandate.
Since it sounds like you didn't get a request to certify the changes, as stated before it's likely the off duty simply did not take.
