    How so?

You can still split your bunk time......

Drive for "X" hours....Take a 2 hour break as in line 2 sleeper berth...
Drive the remaining legal hours, post trip, then take the rest of your sleeper time at 8 hours..... or You reverse the first break with 8 and then drive...then take the 2.......

Yes you can . By regulation you're required to . Regulations prohibit driving when fatigued . If you get a flat tire do you decide you can't stop because of the 14 hour rule ? If road conditions are bad do you continue because you can't stop because of the 14 hour rule ? If someone can't work through the day without taking a nap I'd tell them to get a job somewhere else but what job can you get that allows nap time during the day ? Thank God you're not in the military where your life and the lives around you may depend on you staying awake .
No decent carrier will take any punitive action against any driver for taking needed rest .
