My above scenario is also like exiting the interstate at 55 mph onto a short off ramp with a stop sign or sharp curve at the end of the ramp.

Your only choice is to use the service brakes, as you don't have enough distance to downshift but maybe one gear and if you have a jake brake it will only give you 20% of the braking force of your service brakes.

A heavily loaded truck can stop faster than an empty truck according to the dot manual.

Your truck brakes are designed to stop you....the jake brake is not designed to stop you, only to slow you down. Your engine is not designed to stop you, only to slow you down. It is vital that your brakes are operating properly and that you do not overheat them.

I live in the mountains in eastern PA.....so every driver here knows what I am saying about the exit ramps.....most are very short.

This is only loaded light. Sometimes if your heavy. Your going to need to down shift and use the braking effect of the engine as much as you can. I get over loaded from time to time and my truck doesnt want to go. Or stop once its going. So it depends on how heavy u are too

True, but they also make driving "funless".It's fun going thru all gears when racing another truck at lights. And auto?Meh,no fun just mashing gas pedal.
