Today I went to DMV here in my hometown to renew my CDL. They tell me that they can not renew my CDL because my FL CDL that I had from May 1996 to June 2007 is suspended out of OR for three (3) tickets I was issued in July 2012.
First of all I have owned my own trucking company since 2002 and I haven't even driven a truck since 2007 other than around town here in New England.
Second the ticket was issued to a FL CDL which hasn't been expired since 2007.
So I call OR DMV and they said the three (3) tickets were not issued not in July 2012 as they so noted on the National Data Base, the three tickets were issued on May 26, 1994 and the three (3) tickets were equipment violations on FL plates which they told me the plate #'s.
I laughed because on May 26, 1994 I was at the officers club in Newport RI, I know this cause its the day I married my wife.
Second I didn't move to FL until Jan. 1996 and I didn't receive my CDL until March 1996.
FL DMV confirmed all of this and said the FL plates that OR said were on the vehicles with the violations have never been issued in the history of FL DMV.
OR DMV said none of this matters now. All that matters is that my CDL has been suspended since July 1994 and all I have to do is pay a $75 reinstatement fee and they will release the suspension on my CDL.
How is this possible?

Hope you haven't been the victim of identity theft. 3 Tickets issued to your name or your old DL number? Sounds like you're going to have to spend some money and hire some sort of PI and/or OR attorney to find out what these are about.
Giggles the Original and CDL1968 Thank this. -
The government can't even keep things like this straight.
And people want our government to be in control of our health care.laytonrock, CDL1968, MJ1657 and 2 others Thank this. -

welcome to the computer age and glitches. id place a bet that the one that got the tickets was some one with the same name as yours but with a different ss number dont pay the fee that is an admission of guilt. as to what can be done about it your best bet is to contact a lawyer. you have proof you were not where they say you were and that you did not have a cdl at the time as well. could possibly have them verify the ss number associated with that license and if the can confirm it is different than they should remove the discretion from your record.
CDL1968 Thanks this. -
I would be calling my state rep and senator and lighting a fire.
And then I would go to my fed rep and senator and light a fire there on the "national data base."
But that's just me.
Complete proof that it's their screw up and they want YOU to pay for it? I think not. -
A call to your local representatives' office is good advice. They can get stuff done and fast in a case like this.

Nothing in trucking is easy. Make time for others. It always comes back. Never be fast, be Steady. If in doubt slow down. The hour it takes a week to be slow, Makes you a Professional. Your the Boss.
laytonrock, CDL1968 and scottied67 Thank this. -
People in Florida, most at least, can't even draw a straight line with a ruler. How do you expect them to work with computers?
OP, I'd say this is more or less, your fault. Why? You counted on Florida, to do something right.
That was your first mistake.
All kidding aside, I don't envy you.
Have you checked your credit report, lately?CDL1968 Thanks this.
