1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

how should I get started?

Hello, I've been driving a School Bus for about 14 years and want a new challenge. I'm looking into being a truck driver. In a sense, I don't even know what questions to ask, but here goes: Who offers good training for the best price (Minneapolis, MN area)? What are some good company's to work for? Should I go "over the road" or stay situated in Minneapolis and just drive locally? Are these even the right questions to be asking?!

Can't help you with schooling in the Minneapolis area, since I ain't from around thereabouts. However, after school, take a look at Transport America. I ran with them for awhile, and they were a good outfit for me. Decent miles, decent pay (even for newbies), and they actually worked to get you home most weekends. They'll tell you it's only home long enough for a 34 hr reset, but most drivers would get home on fridays, and not leave out until monday morning. At least, that's how it usually turned out back when I ran for them. Equipment wasn't the latest and greatest, but it ran reliabley, and the shops were always good to me. Dispatch will actually communicate with you.
