Yes you have to log all work related activity. Two great examples.
Driver does some OTR work and some dock work. He will need to log his dock work as on-duty not driving.
Other, I am an independent O/O. Spend several hours each week doing accounting, looking for loads, etc. That is logged on line 4 as well.Elkhunter Thanks this. -
Run legal - period - and you will have the choice to have a long carrer in trucking.
Do what you are saying along with all the "tricks" some people will like to tell you about and you will not be the 1 in 7 that makes it past your first year.
BTW, when you pull into a scale and they are going to do an inspection. They walk out, ask for your logs and tell you to pull around. Not chance for updating.Elkhunter Thanks this. -
i wasjust saying i will never cheat logs i can assure you im not going to ruin my career for an extra 3-4 hrs and be fatigued

Do you have to show 15 minutes of drive time for less than 8 minutes or can you just flag it? Was on break and had to leave customers property during break, went a couple of miles to our terminal. I was trying to go by the letter of the law when I should have bit the bullet and gone by the spirit of the law. Had to leave because they were going to lock the gate and I would have been stuck over the weekend.

Anything less than 15 minutes can be flagged. However, your break up to the point of having to drive was likely nullified (unless you use the SLEEPER BERTH, aka: "split-break", provision) and you would have to restart. You could also be in violation of your 11/14/70 depending on circumstances.

There's no way I can avoid a by the book violation. This was a case where the company, broker and shipper are hanging a driver out to dry. I'll just flag it and if the company yells I'll yell back. Thanks for the advice. The 11 wasn't an issue, it was the 14.

Fun, isn't it?

Not critiquing you or your situation, but I think there's a common misconception regards "flagging" vs. "logging". I think some drivers are under the impression that because an item is flagged only, it doesn't count. That is not the case. Except for the length of time involved, a five-minute flag is treated the same as five hours of driving... it counts againt the various "clocks".
