How start without experience?

Hi! I just got my license a week ago. I tried to get some job, but nobody want to hire me. They said because of the insurance. I am living in montreal. This is ridiculous how can I get experience without work? Anyone could help me please?

 

I started by driving straight trucks, 3 ton or 5 ton body jobs. Did that for about three years then moved up to semi trucks.

 

Can't believe Robert wouldn't take new drivers... there's lots of big carriers around there even if you just start with a Montreal Toronto run twice a week to get started.

 

I get this all the time, new guy walks into the office and wonders why I am not willing to send him out with a new tractor and a million dollar payload. He has a class 1 license, all should be good right? Unfortunately the license will get you in the door but there is so much more to driving truck than operating the equipment.
Just be willing to accept a lesser class licensed job, learn the job and let the company get to know what you are all about. What kind of employee are you, etcetera. Once they feel good about you they will be willing to invest the time and money to bring you along on your career.

 

You need to get local experience first, with some short highway runs mixed in. You need to build up your experience. Having a class 1 doesn’t mean you can drive a truck.

 

Could you offer me some companies that gona take me without experience?

 

I wouldn’t listen to any of those saying you need to work on a 5-ton first, gain experience, yaddi yaddi yadda. Best way to learn is cold turkey. Start as an LCV driver out in the prairies working for Loblaws or something. The megas will literally hire anyone if they know they can underpay them.

 

Respectfully, you have no clue. Loblaws pulkes turnpikes out west here, you need two years or 150,000 km verifiable experience to pull them. The op should look for a can operation or a p&d operation.

 

Look for a can operation, gfs, Sysco that type of thing. Keep applying, try to get in everywhere. You may have to go through a company training program because you have no experience.

 

Did you go through a driving school? Most of them will have contacts or at least a list of companies that take new drivers.

Montreal is a big city and has lots of freight passing through there. I don't know who hires in that area but there must be lots of options. Make some phone calls, knock on some doors. The ones who tell you they can't take new drivers will have a better idea of who does than most of us on the internet will.
