    Hello folks,
Just doing a proper introduction here. I'm coming from the wet side of Washington state. I have been lurking on the forum for about two years now and figured it is time to make a move on my dream and get into trucking. Joined so I could ask novice questions and get heat for being a green horn. Cheers.

What type trucking are you interested in?
    Long haul, local?
How do you plan to get your cdl?

Chinatown you are the main reason I joined, so I could pester you for company recommendations lol. I'm mostly interested in regional or otr driving. I've been planning to go through a private school in state, but I'm not dead set against a company sponsored program. I do realize not all company training schools are created the same. I'm really hoping to get on with Jim Palmer because of their pet friendly policy. I have a german shepherd and I have come to realize how many doors are closed because of that. I'm in western WA. do you have any companies you could recommend to me?

Jim Palmer Trucking is a good choice. You can run 48 states or just stay in the western states.
Melton Truck Lines - hires new cdl grads and can take the dog.
Shaffer Trucking - can take 2 dogs or 2 cats. They've always hired new cdl grads, but the website has something different now. Call and ask about that.
Prime Inc. - can take the dog. Thing to watch for is, sometimes if you live in certain areas, Prime will want you to lease a truck instead of being a company driver. Don't lease a truck.

Thanks Chinatown. I called Prime they said 40 pounds or less, my dog is around 80. I called earl henderson and they were offering lease positions only for my area. I haven't ruled werner out, but the lack of inverters is not thrilling. Melton seems promising if palmer doesnt work out, I think I'd rather pull a box but who knows. Shaffer is a no go as well, they dont have an approved school in Wa. Pride seems promising. Was a little dissapointed after the call when I read about thier 5k contract they present you at orientation. I emailed the recruiter and she explained they want you to stay 6 months or pay back for the training. I understand why, but they are just sticking you on a truck not putting you through cdl school.

Pride, as with many companies, is spending money shipping drivers to their orientation, then providing lodging and meals during orientation, then the guy happens to be a job hopper and leaves without generating any revenue for the company. @Snowshoes works there and can explain the company.
If I like a company, I'll do 6 mos. easily.

    Snowshoes and BossBigBore Thank this.

Lynden Transport in WA hires new cdl grads, but don't know if they have pet policy.

I think the contract is acceptable and I understand why, I just wish I would have heard it from the company first rather than in a negative review. I certainly do not want to start somewhere with the intetions of finding greener pastures once I get expirence. I personally dont like orientations, so the fewer I attend the better off. Pride seems like a great company good pay, a good training program, as well as excellent equipment with amenities for the driver that alot of companies lack. Thanks for the leads Chinatown, I can not wait to get on the road!

I love the road! Never had a desire for anything but OTR.
As for negative posts about companies, they all have some negative posts. Don't let those dissuade you.
Pride does hair follicle drug test. They can see what's been going on for the past 12 months.

I am with Pride, They have been great, I have been with them 3 years now. I did leave for a bit for local but went back after a few months.
If I can answer any questions, please feel free to ask. They have me doing a local gig right now, but I had been on the dedicated fleet prior to this.
