Well, I guess that could be true but the truth is there are a lot of "Hacks" in this industry that simply "cain't learn" the proper way so they "Idiot Proofed" the procedure for the sake of safety.

It works, it's fast and consistent. There's really no time to run an experiment on each wheel end you put together.

When I work on my truck I do have time to do it right. My friend almost lost his front wheel in ND with 50 ftlb and so I did some research and found the right way to do it. Not here to argue. And military trucks do not go 65 mph or at least I've never seen them going that fast....

I agree that precision is better but shops generally don't practice precise measurement on a wheel hub, it's either the torque method or the feels just right method.

You have to measure thread pitch and then get out the dial indecator which 95% dont do. But your right its the right way ive just had good luck with tourque methed

I measure with a dial indicator every time. The tools are not that expensive and easy to find at any tool store. The process doesn't take that much longer.

No im not here to tell people how to do things but only truth most people dont do the last step with dial indecator which is the most important.

This is one of those things that I am totally paranoid over. This is just one of those jobs if you screw up someone can get killed! When I do a service or put an oil pan on I check the plugs about 3 times, just the way I am to make sure and make me feel confident that it was done! Your right, not too many guys I work with use a dial indicator either. I use it, and I walk away with 100% confidence for myself and the customer that it was done right!
