I bought a rollback that is in remarkably incredible condition.

It's an fl60 truck, that is rated for 20,940 lb.

I did as you suggested brian, and I contacted the right inspection Shop in Pennsylvania and they will raise the weight up to 25,999 for me, as long as I show them documentation from Freightliner.

My question is, when you have a truck that is 21,000 GVW, I see that there are guys that they tag them for a combination weight.

Could you please explain to me why it's good to do that or not good to do that or if it's to my advantage to have a combination weight on this truck instead of raising the weight of the GVW?

My understanding is the GVW in Towing is what you can put on the rollback bed. That weight is your gvw.

My understanding of combination weight is what you are pulling behind you. All of those smaller trucks are allowed 10,000 pounds. I don't see how a combination helps you unless you have a 14,000 lb truck that you make a combination for 26 and then you can pull something heavier, but in this situation I see no benefit.

I think it would be better if I can up the weight to 26,000 pounds, and pull 10,000 pounds behind me and we're done. I don't think there's any wheel lift That's rated on these little trucks to pull Beyond 10,000 pounds anyway.

Thank you I appreciate the guidance.

And whomever else is in the towing world that understands this.

For a rollback it is best to register it for the GVWR. A combination weight does nothing for you as your truck needs to be registered for the maximum weight it can legally hold on it's two axles.

I registered all my two car carriers (rollback with a wheel lift) for 26,000 and never had any problems.

    Dino soar Thanks this.

I also the lights need to be redone along the side of the rollback.

What color lights legally are they supposed to be that are along the side part of the rollback bed?

The combination weight is just in case they have to use or recover a loaded bumper pull trailer, travel trailer, etc. Wheel lifts on rollbacks don’t apply to that in Tejas because a traditional tow truck or repo truck does not have a loadable bed.

I don’t understand. I know people bought a car. Ask me how many cylinders,ÎF it has a turbo…. But buying not knowing if it has a wheel lift? Underreach?
