I have been battling to have a working radio now for weeks....i have no idea what to do next. Here is the quick and dirty....
2012 Prostar Midroof
Galaxy DX959
New high quality 18' coax
New mount, sanded mirror strut prior to bolt-on
Wilson 2000, 4 ft
SWR is .2 on Ch1 and .3 on Ch40
Antennae and radio are grounded to the chassis
Symptoms: range of transmission AND reception is about 1/5 of a mile....at best. Squelch seems normal.
Also, I have checked grounds in different locations, swapped antennas, swapped coax, swapped the mount, and tried a Cobra 29. Each radio was checked with different mics. All swaps were done one at time, to ensure troubleshooting accuracy. Its also not a "switchology" issue....I triple checked all positions on both radios and inline fuse has been checked and intact each time.
The results are the same, no matter what I do. What am I missing???
I give up....

How is your power supply?
shivver Thanks this. -
Its hooked up to the hotwire available from the stock setup....when i transmit, the needle flies just into the red zone....i do have some noise from the engine tho....
Cottonmouth85 Thanks this. -
I would say ground to the frame hot to the battery and then check it. Those stock power supplies are junk at best
-
Disclaimer: fuse it on both ends and run wire through the cab appropriately. No need to go starting fires
shivver Thanks this. -
ok....will try....thanks

Read my Cascadia Solutions thread.....and go get a top loaded antenna that will top out just under 13'6". Problem will be solved. (and do run your wires straight to the battery or at least a post that is wired direct to the battery)

I tried a Firestik.....that didnt help.....i top loaders are supposedly better, but. i am a huge fan of the Wilsons. Do i need to run the same gauge wire to connect to my radio harness? I would imagine that a shift in gauge would produce "dirty" power....correct?
-
No, 100 different accessories on the same circuit causes 'dirty' power. If you run a slightly heavier gauge you're stepping in the right direction.

Thanks! Am gonna run the hot and ground to the battery while i am waiting to offload tomorrow....i will report...Cottonmouth85 Thanks this.
